Cabins
Cabin camping is a good way to get your troop exposed to an overnight without having to deal with the "outdoors" aspect of camping, or bad weather. Rock Hill is a super place to start.
How to plan a camping trip in cabins
Choose a date for your camping trip
Create a packing list and send them to all of your girls.
Create an itinerary of what times you plan to do each activity. Separate your troop into two patrols: One group may clean the bathrooms and the other may wash the floors. Have each of these groups assigned roles after and before meals (cooking&setting the table/cleaning the table and washing dishes). Also the next morning keep in mind while packing away your belonging, "Leave the place cleaner than when you arrived". After you plan for cleaning, plan the activities your troop would like to do and when. For example after you clean the cabins from arriving you may choose to do hiking and survival activities. After the tiring activities plan to do some water activities such as canoeing and kayaking. Then allow time for your troop to take showers and get ready for dinner. Branch the two cleaning groups and demonstrate how to cook simple food for your girls such as vegetables and pasta. The other group can take this time to relax and bond. Then after dinner demonstrate the correct way to clean dishes.
Sample Itinerary for camping trip:
Day 1
2:30pm Meet at school to depart.
3PM Arrive at Rock Hill.
3-4:30pm Set up camp, put away food, conduct safety drill, short hike
5-7pm- Prepare dinner over open campfire. We are earning the Outdoor Cooking Badge together. Food will likely be burgers and hot dogs, potatoes in foil, and veggies with dip. We will try to make brownies in a box oven.
Also, of course s'mores will be offered!
8pm-9:30pm Community camping activity. Probably a campfire singalong
9:30pm-10pm Lights out. Actually flashlights out!
Day 2
7-9am Breakfast over campfire. "Breakfast in a bag" (scrambled eggs) and bagels.
9am- camp clean up- Leave it better than we found it.
9:30- Return to school-
