Some ways to get started are....
- Have the girls bring in an assortment of coins and some small value paper bills. Discuss and explain the value of each type of money.
- Play a game where you show them a $5 bill and have the group figure out what combination of coins and/or bills adds up to the total.
- Think of a troop event that the group can do together, like going to the movies or to a carnival. Talk about all the things you must buy (tickets, food, prizes etc) and figure out how much each thing costs. Add up the cost of the event together and see how much the fun activity will cost you.
- Make some play money and give each scout the same amount. Have some small items (toys, candy, etc) on a table and let the girls "shop" using their play money. This way they get the experience and understanding of what you need to keep in mind when shopping and spending money.
