Annual Holiday Meal at St. Mary's in Katonah
Lots of troops will have a holiday cookie swap or baking marathon where they get together and bake a ton of cookies, keep some for themselves, and donate the rest to the Annual Holiday Dinner which is held on Xmas day at St. Mary's School in Katonah NY.
Organize a drive for supplies for a needy organization
While Troops are not permitted to donate money or funds directly to other groups, they can raise money for supplies and donate the supplies. They can also organize community wide drives for food, canned goods, school supplies, shoes and clothing for donation to Haiti or the Red Cross, holiday gifts for needy families, and pet supplies for the local animal shelter. Make sure you contact the group you are donating to before you start your drive to be sure of what they need.
Emergency Sheltering Project in Bedford/Mt. Kisco
Cook a couple meals and drop them off at your nearest shelter. You can try making Breakfast in a Bag (hardboiled egg, juice box, granola bar, piece of fruit) and share that with local churches or shelters. There is an Emergency Sheltering project run by a group of local churches in Bedford, Mt. Kisco, and Katonah that can use the donations. Contact Rev. Paul Alcorn at the Bedford Presbyterian Church for details.

Toiletry kits for the Midnight Run
Have a drive at your school and collect socks and other toiletries. Make little kits by putting the toiletries in the socks and give them to a local church that does a midnight run.
Sponsor a Daycare/After school program in a low income area like Yonkers.
This idea was actually used as a Silver award project a few years ago. The troop adopted a local daycare center with an after school program. There were 3 parts to their service project.
1) The troop organized a drive for gently used childrens clothing and also for new school supplies and backpacks. They set up collection boxes at schools and churches in the community and collected a large amount of donations.
2) The girls washed and cleaned up the clothing and sorted it by size and gender. The also packed each new backpack with an assortment of supplies.
3) The backpacks with school supplies were donated directly to needy children who attended the daycare or after school place. The clothing donations were arranged in a "shop" or little store, and were priced extremely cheap, like $.05 for a shirt, $.10 for a pair of pants, etc. The parents of the kids who use the center could "shop" for the donated clothing, and the funds raised were in turn used to purchase art supplies for the after school and daycare center.
It was a win/win for all.
